Anyone have any good links to find evidence to prove that the number of women we have in Parliament at present, is an improvement from twenty years ago? I need some good LEGITIMATE sites that can help... This is in terms if the British Government by the way...
Topic for gender diversity in schools? I need a topic to research that relates to gender diversity in schools, particularly k-12. Any ideas for a good interesting topic? I am having trouble finalizing anything.
is gender diversity and difference disppearing in american society? it used to be men went out and worked. women stayed in and took care of the children. now women are career moms. there is nothing wrong with this. but now women are finding skinny lean and infeminite men more and more attractive. much like themselves. need proof? read a mens fitness magizine from back when it started. its primary focus was to give guys advice on how to become stronger. now it has more articles on how to keep slim! what is the cause of these changes?
Can organization use gender to increase work group composition diversity? Is this a legitimate exception to law Southwood Psychiatric hospital is a treatment facility w/ an emphasis on the treatment of emotionally disturbed & sexually abused children. when hospital mngt. reassigned a female childcare specialist to the night team, she charged sexual discrimination. she charecterized her new assignment as less desirable than being part of the day treatment and claimed it was made on the basis of her gender. hospital mngt. readily conceded the charge was true; the hospital had assigned her to the night team because she was a female employee. ordinarily. making any kind of personnel decision on the basis of gender is illegal -unless gender is a bona fide occupational qualification (such as in selecting attendant for restroom facilities.) the hospital argued that it attempted to provide gender diversity w/ in its treatment teams in order to provide better care of female patients who might feel more comfortable when talking to female staff members or to male patients who might relate to male staff.
How often do you catch yourself having ethical blind spots related to issues of gender and diversity? Recently, I was making jokes related to another regular poster's preferences and while it wasn't deliberately at anyone else's expense, it occurred to me that I was using a term that would almost certainly be offensive to transgendered and transsexual people. The questions weren't reported: I pulled them myself. I know most of us don't like excessive political correctness but is it still something you think about?
homework help? gender diversity? for my promoting children's rights assignment i have to explain gender and its diversity in today's society. any useful references or help please?
I need Diversity and Gender Resources!? I currently work for a non-profit day care and we are needing to accquire books, insturments and any manipulatives on racial and gender diversity. If you know of any, please list resoures where I may locate them! Our age group is 6 weeks-6 years. The more cheap, the better!
If race/gender diversity on the SCOTUS is not important, why did gender discrimination cases, pre-1972? never rule in favor of Women? Title IX, passed in 1972 - "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." This was only a few years after the first African American supreme court justice was seated (Thurgood Marshall, 1967). "Justice is to be blind but thanks for using the race and gender card to make a point." Apparently justice wasn't blind when dealing with gender/racial rights before Thurgood Marshal was on the court. Prove me wrong by finding a ruling in favor of womens' rights before he was on the bench.
Is it not ironic that anti-feminism has greater gender diversity than feminism? After all feminism try's to advertise as 'equality' yet it actively goes out to exclude males firstly from calling themselves feminist's and secondly they also deny men access to a few of their events such as Reclaim the Night, Million Women Rise etc How can an organisation which prides it's self on saying its is for equality actively exclude any participation by males, as well as also deny existence of DV against men. It's not surprising that feminism attracts a very few number of males to even want to support them, whilst anti-feminism is made up of both genders many of the organisations being made by women such as Women Who Want to be Women, REAL Women of Canada, STOP ERA (founded by Phyllis Schlafly) Ladies Against Feminism etc I am not saying that all anti feminism actions are right (i am not one myself) but it does seem seriously ironic that those against feminism are made up of both genders almost equally it would seem.
Why should companies concern themselves with diversity? And what do you think about this: What will it take for organization to reap the real and full benefits of a diverse workforce? In workplace diversity about increasing racial, national, gender, or class representation, in other, recruiting and re-training more people from traditionally underrepresented "identity groups"?
How is my diversity essay for the common app? The prompt is: A range of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences adds much to the educational mix. Given your personal background, describe an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you. Diversity is a very important aspect of life. Diversity is the understanding that each individual is unique, and that everyone has their own individual differences. In the United States, where society is always increasingly multicultural, diversity is important. People have differences of ethnicity, religion, race, socioeconomic classes, gender, sexual orientation, and/or physical ability. If we are not aware of these differences, prejudice grows. I feel that by being diverse ourselves, we can get along better with each other. Diversity is especially important in school because it allows students to have a greater respect for those who have different beliefs or points of views than themselves. This encourages the exchange of ideas, which overall enriches the student body as a whole. Furthermore, this opens minds to new experiences, which greatly help students with college in the future. I never understood the importance of diversity until I started to attend O’Dea High School. Since O’Dea is the only all-boys Catholic high school in Washington, I figured that most of the students would be “jocks” and would only care about sports. After a few weeks as a freshman, I realized that I was totally wrong. During freshman orientation, I was overwhelmed with the various clubs and activities that I could join. There was so many that interested me that I could not decide which one to join! I was also overwhelmed with the different kinds of students I met. Every day I learned from the people who surrounded me without even realizing it. I learned how they were raised, their cultures, and their beliefs and ideals. I felt as the years went by, everyone mixed together. All the cliques, racial differences, and stereotypes seemed to disappear. Barriers melted away, and everyone meshed together. I feel that diversity will help me adapt to the world much more easily. I believe that it will prepare me for life by making me more tolerant, compassionate, and less ethnocentric and narrow-minded. I value diversity because it helps me understand the real world, not just the neighborhood where I grew up. What do you think? I don't think it is long enough, but what should I add? Thanks!
What ways could we find and use to have unity in our diversity as cultures, classes and peoples? Often we hear of diversity and do not speak often of a path to unity as human beings. It seems we are pushing multiculturalism (in my understanding a code word for political correctness and thought policing) to a point of the breakdown and destruction of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Many individuals (this doesn't include every one) belonging to different cultures, classes and segments of society, are constantly striving to tear one another down, based upon envy/jealousy, religious fanatacism, racial, religious or gender bigotry and most of this coming out of past and historical wrongs, which belong only to people nearly dead or long dead and not to anybody living today, except those deliberately promoting hate and intolerance, which has an end; being the death and destruction of certain groups of people. I look forward to seeing some good Ideas on this balance or understanding of diversity and unity as human beings.
Can you provide an EXAMPLE of diversity in the workplace? Workplace diversity includes important human characteristics that influence’s and employee’s values, perceptions of self and others, behaviours, and interpretations of events around him or her. Diversity consists of two dimensions; the core consists of elements such as: age, gender, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, mental & physical capabilities. Whereas the secondary dimensions consist of language, interests, location, background, education, work experience, family status, and income.
Have you been required to attend cultural diversity classes by your employer? I work for a $1 Billion Fortune 500 company in the healthcare industry. We recently had to attend a "cultural diversity class." The class included presentations on homosexuality and acceptance of that lifestyle choice as "normal." I am offended that I was forced to listen to this type of homosexual propaganda. I am offended that I am forced to "accept" or feign acceptance of a lifestyle which is counter to everything heterosexual. Homosexuality is a choice. Homosexuality is unlike other diverse distinctions such as race or gender. No one chooses their race or gender, and so it should be wrong to discriminate against them. To allow the choice of one's sexuality to be treated the same as an ethnic group or gender is ludicrous. What's next? Acceptance of all sexual deviations: pedophilia, necrophilia, beastiality? Do you feel it is right for a company to force such views on its employees? Do I have the legal right to opt out of such employee classes?
diversity is a wonderful thing.eg, age, gender, race, sexuality, nationality, religion....? these are factors which all help shape who we are and determine the type of people we become. therefore discuss the disadvantages of lacking all or some of these catagories and why each one of them- age, race, sexuality, religion, nationality are so important to us as human beings. and i'd also pose another question: 'what does the word difference mean to you?' do you like myself, see it as a positive way of labelling individuals or the exact opposite? the most imaginative and original answer wins
Where can I get a shirt supporting multicultural diversity? I want to get a shirt as a thank-you for someone. I don't have a whole lot of money to spend. I want something along the lines of 'celebrate diversity' or global diversity and I want serious...not humorous. It's for a guy so I want it to be gender-neutral/masculine, preferably dark colored. I hope that makes sense and I really hope someone can help! ~Thanks
How does religious diversity impact team performance? I am doing a group project on Management class and there is not much information on this topic. We have 4 people in group and their parts are age, culture, gender. Mine is religion, religion's impact on teamwork, that's team performance. Thanks for the answer.
Well if we can't accept diversity, can't we create a Global culture? And language, ideology, and maybe we could all even drive on the same side of the road? I mean it would never work, but if some were willing to give up their ways, there is no reason it couldn't work, well yeah whatever it actually still wouldn't work But there are three options 1. Accept diversity 2. Fight or otherwise avert diversity 3. Have no diversity But then there is age, gender, religion, race, socioeconomic status, etc Well what do you think?
Why do people claim to love diversity in other people, yet make friendships with people who are just like them? Races don't generally mingle even in multicultural countries, they have their distinct groups and stick together, same with genders, same with people of different occupations. Religious followers too tend to want to be around others who believe what they do (or don't). Of course there are exceptions and sometimes many, but overall, people tend to want to be around those who are similar in some significant way to themselves. Why is this? And why do people profess to want difference and diversity, when the reality does not show this?
Websites related to diversity in educational settings? Does anyone know of any websites (not articles) such as www.edexchange.org and www.teachingtolerance.org that are related to diversity in educational settings? Websites can relate to race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, learning disabilities, socioeconomic status, age, language... Thanks!
Is it me or is gender inequity in the workpace getting worse? I work for a huge company, formerly known for the high value it placed on employees and diversity in the workplace. The male CEO has 10 Sr VPs who report to him - 9 are men. And 70% of the ~120 VPs who report to these SR VPs are men. And it doesn't improve even at lower levels of management. Is this happening everywhere or is this the result of poor leadership from a CEO who will get a pension of $11K per DAY while the the rest of us widgets have had their pension eliminated? Or is it just that the working conditions become such that one cannot succeed in this biz w/out a wife?
Isn't diversity just a code word for racism? Organizations today, public and private promote diversity like it is a virtue. Shouldn't society be more focused on producing high standards and competent people over the color of their skin, their ethnicity or their gender.
How can feminists deny gender differences when they are fundamentally? defined in the womb. The female is the default path if the Y chromosome is not present. The embryo starts of as unisex for the first 9-10 weeks, the presence of large concentrations of testosterone created by the Y chromosome act as a massive chemical switch that turns the embryo into a male. Essentially a male "becomes" and is the organized path, the female follows the default passive path. Essentially this defines the difference between masculinity and femininity. So a male "becomes" and a female "is" , I am not implying one is better than the other as both have their strengths and weaknesses. For example although the male path is more complex, the female is actually a fitter and stronger embryo. But instead of embracing diversity gender/ideological feminists want to force equal outcome androgyny on the whole of society. But androgyny is not really quite right. It's more to do with forcing males to become more feminized by defining the feminine as virtue and the masculine as vice.
I am doing a little survey on diversity training for a business class that I am taking? Race and Ethnicity 1.My race (ethnicity) is 2.My name, , is significant because it means 3.One positive thing about my racial/ethnic background is 4.One difficult thing about my racial/ethnic background is Religion 5.My religion is 6.One positive thing about my religious background is 7.One difficult thing about my religious background is Gender 8.I am 9.One positive thing about being a female is 10.One difficult thing about being a female is Age 11.I am years old. 12.One positive thing about being this age is 13.One difficult thing about being this age is Other 14.One way in which I am different from other people is 15.One positive thing about being different in this way is 16.One negative thing about being different in this way is Prejudice, Stereotypes, Discrimination 17.If you have ever been prejudged, stereotyped, or discriminated against, describe w I know that these are some questions that should not be asked in the workplace, but I was trying to see if there was anyone who would talk about these things with no problem.
Has modern science debunked the theory of gender and sexual diversity? Some people (anti-LGBT) told me that and I was feeling like, how could they say this despite so many experiments which were conducted to establish the reality? Some people tell me I am just mentally sick because of being a lesbian transwoman MTF. There is no evidence which proves my point that there are biological factors behind both gay and trans...many told me that real science has debunked the concept that gender and sexual diversity exists. Is this true that modern science much like religion is not by our side? Or is it that these people are just trying to enforce their bigotry by saying this?

Does diversity lead to conflict..or does it make us stronger? This can be any kind of diversity... cultural, racial, gender, same sex marriages...whatever. I personally think diversity won't be overcome, there will always be people judging others. Besides...wouldnt it be kinda boring if everyone was the same?? I would REALLY like to hear what you have to say
What makes up Diversity? What are the many diversity issues (such as race, religion, gender, culture, disabilities)? And how should a teacher go about handling these many diverse issues in order to be a good teacher?
Is the binary dichotomisation of "straight"-"not-straight" really useful at all? I am intrigued by human tendencies to look for in-groups and out-groups; herd behaviour to identify with discrete categories or identities/labels that allow nomothetic extraoplation of the individual's qualities from those of the broader group. Gender diversity is increasingly acknowledged in modern psychological literature, people varying in their interests or sexual preference not just between individuals but also within individuals over time in some cases. The clarification of this distinction from gender is important, but also emphasises the semantic confusion that arises when that gender reference point is moved (in transgendered conditions). Basically, what I am asking is: does the binary distinction of straight or not really serve any useful social function or is it simply an overgeneralisation used to pigeon hole and discriminate? Have we learnt nothing from the works of Milgram and Zimbado about the dangers of blind adherence to social straight-jackets?

Do you think deversity (bie/tri-gender/gay/lesb./or cross-dressing) should be a topic addressed in schools? I'm on a policy councle committee and a delegate is bring up a personal topic... The delegate (A tri-gender) want's diversity taught to k-12 and pre-schooler's (At different levels per grade of course). I'm trying to keep my personal feeling on the topic out of this... I'd like to know how the general public feel about this? Would this be something you'd be comfortable haveing a teacher talk with your children about? What I mean when I say "TRIGENDER" would be that this person was born as a girl, was then a made to be a man then desided to go back to being(dressing like) a women...
When will gender equality be achieved? Even though we have made strives over the past 50 years, many people still believe in a number of stereotypes and have a major issue with people who choose to live outside of society's ideals. Is it possible that within our children's lifetime, they will be able to appreciate human diversity, rather than the intolerance of today's world? gunplumber_462, you have only a superficial understanding of humanity, and that is the exact mentality which is endangering our future.
Marital Roles: By Age, Gender, Race, Ethnicity, Religion, and Socioeconomic Status Content Needed? I might write a paper on marital roles and needed to cite the diversity amongst the roles as they vary between age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, and socioeconomic status. However, I need online (website) sources that can document this information, but can't find a couple of sites that list more than just a comparisson between two areas. Can anybody provide any links if you find any?
Are the real issues being shoved to the back burner? Political Forum......? More questions and allegations about pregnant or gay daughters, past associations, diversity - age, color, gender and military records vs. energy prices, health care, the war on terror, job outsourcing, illegal immigration, the housing scandals, the candidates' REAL positions on serious issues and so on. Lately, it's been like Entertainment Tonight or the Jerry Springer Show. Are we really that starved for sensationalism? Your thoughts?
Hello ladies what do you think of this article? http://www.businessweek.com/2000/00_47/b3708145.htm http://knowledge.allianz.com/en/globalissues/demographic_change/gender_diversity/women_money_us.html I would like to get your opinion on this ladies. Have you ever felt discriminated against because of age, gender, sexual orientation, ability, or race? ? I have an assignment in my Human Development class and need opinions from people who are different from me in one aspect of human diversity, ie. age, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, ethnicity, class, or geographical location. The assignment asks the following questions and is totally anonymous. 1. Describe one situation where this aspect of diversity affected your life in some way, either negatively or positively. 2. Discuss whether you have ever felt discriminated against or treated differently on the basis of this difference, how you felt and how you reacted. 3. Are there any policies in place that have affected you in some direct way? How might these policies be changed? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks so much Angie By the way...I am a 38 y/o married heterosexual middle class female living in IN.
