How can feminists deny gender differences when they are fundamentally?
defined in the womb. The female is the default path if the Y chromosome is not present. The embryo starts of as unisex for the first 9-10 weeks, the presence of large concentrations of testosterone created by the Y chromosome act as a massive chemical switch that turns the embryo into a male. Essentially a male "becomes" and is the organized path, the female follows the default passive path. Essentially this defines the difference between masculinity and femininity. So a male "becomes" and a female "is" , I am not implying one is better than the other as both have their strengths and weaknesses. For example although the male path is more complex, the female is actually a fitter and stronger embryo. But instead of embracing diversity gender/ideological feminists want to force equal outcome androgyny on the whole of society. But androgyny is not really quite right. It's more to do with forcing males to become more feminized by defining the feminine as virtue and the masculine as vice.

- Your question should read "How can SOME feminists...", etc. Not all of them do. The smart ones know that there are gender differences and are asking for equal rights and equal pay - something that they should be getting without having to ask for it.

- No one is denying biological differences. What is disputed is the idea that certain behaviors are inherently masculine, and some inherently feminine; if it's true, equal opportunity will be impossible. The gender differences being disputed are things like "Women have more emotional capacity" and "Men have more intellectual capacity"; feminists claim that this is as illogical an idea as "Whites have more intellectual capacity", and that having the idea around is harmful. Example: men make up 95% of world governments, either it's because of a gender difference (men are smarter and more ambitious) or because of social pressures and attitudes (men are pressured to seek power, women are pressured to be maternal). Feminists deny the former. There are obviously gender differences that no one is disputing, but there are a lot of ASSUMED gender differences that are untrue and dysfunctional, causing problems both for men and women. (Fighting these ideas and attitudes is integral to seeking equal opportunity and equal pay, simply changing laws does very little.)
- That's SEX. Feminists are more apt to deny GENDER differences. Sex and gender are not the same thing.
- Feminist must be some rough women, is all I can say. Got men scared, feeling less than, doing weird analysis from biology to not allowing boys to join the girl scouts, "go figure". Gender difference oh yes, what kinda power is she slinging. After all she just a women with a voice and its still a mans world. RIGHT Not a feminist, but a realist.
- This is a distortion of feminist ideals: >>>"But instead of embracing diversity gender/ideological feminists want to force equal outcome androgyny on the whole of society." Many people confuse equal opportunity and equal outcome. Opponents of feminism love to promote the misconception that equal rights mean that women want to be like men, and make the fallacious leap that feminism promotes androgyny. Some individuals may promote androgyny, but as a collective movement, feminism promotes equal rights and opportunities. As women become more visible in the workplace, in government, and in society at large, men are seeing their deeply rooted, masculinized version of society eroded. They are naturally uncomfortable with the change, and some even feel threatened as they watch women succeed in business and in life with their "radically different" feminine ways of doing things. Edit: Harriet Harmon is a fringe radical, like Andrea Dworkin or Valerie Solanes. I give her about the same credibility, too. I don't live in England, so I am not responsible for allowing such an extremist to hold a position of so much power. How DID you allow that to happen, Bob?
- Feminists can deny anything. Fundamental to their philosophy is that women are the same as men, and gender differences are created by 'society'.
- Elf #3: >Some individuals may promote androgyny, but as a collective >movement, feminism promotes equal rights and opportunities. Er, not any more. Harriet Harman of the UK tried to make discrimination against men legal. Is that about equal rights? >As women become more visible in the workplace, >in government, and in society at large, Jeez, how much more visible do women want to be? Looking at women's wishes in careers etc, it seems that women don't want to work in the major banks, don't want to work in major construction projects, don't want to become the political leaders. You get the feeling that women are as visible as they wish in the areas that they want. >some [men] feel threatened as they watch women succeed >in business and in life with their "radically different" feminine >ways of doing things. Aha ha ha ha. You wish. Countries will still be run the same, building will still be built the same and banks, well, they're just banks. I can assure you gender has no bearing on the strength of feeling against banks and the way they are ran. Bob (Y!A is terrible for having a proper debate)
- Not really... BD
