What is the average salary of an expat teacher in Vietnam?
I'm quite interested in teaching in Vietnam. However, I've read good and not so good experiences of some people. I hope some of you can give me an overview of the teaching (salary, typical behavior of the students) and living conditions. Thanks=)

- My guess is around US$2500 - 4000 per month plus housing benefits and annual return air ticket. The students behaviour should be alright, Asian kids are generally quite well behaved. The living conditions in the 2 major cities, Ho Chi Mingh and Hanoi should be alright.
- Actually, the more usual rate is only $ 1000 to $ 1200 plus $ 200 housing allowance per month. Most teachers I've talked to said they could live quite well on that salary (housing $ 400, food $ 300, transportation $ 200, incidentals and entertainment $ 100...that still leaves $ 200 for savings...). I believe them, considering that's the salary of a Vietnamese doctor or high official. They also said Vietnamese students are usually polite, attentive, hard working and really love their teachers.
