How many expat Aussie pensioners are having to rely on their wife's rice harvest, ?
Since the exchange rate is so low It's a serious question. What's funny about it ?

- Now that IS funny.
- oh, I would guess what is funny is the thought that poor rice farmers will support some Aussie - who they have been previously looking to for support - - most rice harvesting is subsistence - it does not pay the electric bill or for his beer habit - -
- You Aussie pensioners are sweet talking charming bastards who can get away with it. What about us poor Pom pensioners? I'd tried to get 'er indoors to sell a few bahts worth of her necklaces and she gave me the Thai equivalent of "over my dead body" and then patiently explained to me that when the baht rises against stirling all I have to do is to increase the transfer amount to balance the income.
- stop drinking so much piss, then you mite find you have a bit more money
- well I know what you mean.. when i met my wife, she had 3 rice paddies and 2 cows and a broken down tracter. now she has a lot more land to farm and 14 cows and a new tracter, plus pumps for irrigation and a new dam. So I will now get some return on my investment.
- Hope you do help her harvesting rice. It's coming to harvesting time. Otherwise you can sell newspaper. Don't go to do windshield at the intersection, I like mine dirty. Just kidding though, in any case, you are still get more pay than anyone does working. Don't know what's going on with the Aussy dollar, but the market is unreal at the moment because money gone home for almost every currencies. Haven't looked into Aussy dollars yet, but it used to be strong because your guys back home are paying higher interest than anyone. Probably, the funds being placed there are going home too because of the liquidity problem in the US and Europe. I guess interest rates should be going up at home as well right? That means it's good for Australia because you are needing funds for econ expansion. Well, I'm just guessing theorically, as it should be in this time because I havent any time to look specifically at your econ situations.
- Gavin my " dollars " are Malaysian Ringgit and my in laws have their own rice fields . Even with my ringgit i dare say we can get by in Thailand unless you are talking about a splurge in Bangkok ! My dollars are half the purchasing power of yours ! My in laws have rice fields that is rented to people to work on . Half the spoils are for the in laws half for the workers . This is done purely to get GOOD RICE for their own consumption all year round from land given from their grandparents . That's how village people live in Thailand ( NOT rich ) so maybe that's why you are attracting humor If you are asking for a way to make money and you have land try TEAK wood if you have land in the North . That is gold in ten years
