In the interest of racial and gender diversity, should certain congressional seats be available to certain ppl?
as in "this Senatorial election is open only to female candidates" I suppose I should have asked why or why not But isn't "diversity" more important than "rights", or even the "truth"?

- YES!
- No
- A few countries have laws where so many seats must be filled by women. However, that's not very democratic.
- No, It would go against the very foundation of freedom and the entire election process. It would deny certain individuals the right to run for "elected" office. Edit: For if there is no truth, then what is there?
- You mean the way it's done in Sweden? In that case, yes.
- No, since that's not the way the Senate works? It would be funny as a joke if the government ofa really racist country or a really sexist country and told the people they could only vote for women/people not from the majority race of that country in the next election...watch everyone freak out, lol.
- This is a totally un-American idea.
- No. The seat should go to the most qualified candidate...not that that always happens.
- though i do think a more equal representation of women and minorities would be indicative of a healthier society... i believe there are better ways of achiving balance than a system of quotas. to exclude any individual from running based on their sex, age, ethnicity, or whatever is to continue what feminist have hoped to end. bit hypocritical, no? not to mention the resentment and social unrest that might follow from those who would be excluded... a true meritocracy is the way to go.
- You're talking about politics here. Appearances are so much more important than qualifications. And the "truth" is almost never an important point.
- No. If all people are not qualified then all people should not have the same opportunities. I don't care if whites, blacks, asians, whatever, have a job if they're going to do it poorly. To hell with diversity. Let's bring skill back into the equation.
- no. it should only be open to the most qualified for the position, regardless of gender or race.
